I mentioned in the last newsletter that this year’s National Beard and Moustache Championships in Las Vegas on November 11 would feature more categories than we have had in the past. Several of you have sent me suggestions, all of which are very helpful, and I have spoken to a number of different people about this. Some of you will remember the comment of Dennis Dickerson (The General) at the meeting in Intercourse, where Dennis suggested that, since many of us are planning on competing at future world championships, it would make sense to utilize the world championship categories at our National competition. I think Dennis’ suggestion is excellent, so I have decided that we will use the world championship categories in Las Vegas. You have less than 10 months to prepare!

Phil Olsen News Beard Team USA Nationals Beard Moustache Facial Hair Update

January 25, 2013

I don’t know what I am doing. I got a new job, which I guess is full time. It’s pretty cool because they gave me a car to use to get to and from work. It’s an equipment rental house so when jobs come into a shop there’s a chance I actually get to go work on set which means more money. Plus I am free to leave to do features when I want to.
Downside is I have to wear pants in the shop. I am all about the shorts. Year round. There’s always weekends too. I was also told to be aware of my appearance (my beard) when customers come into the shop, which is weird because the boss knows I compete and says he thinks it’s cool.
In other news, our February Meeting will be at Cornwall’s in Kenmore Square on the 16th if anyone wants to come hang out. We will be hashing out details for our Worcester competition in March
