First off the shirts have been ordered and we should be getting them from the printers in about a week. You already saw the pictures. We got a variety of sizes so if you want one let me know and I can put your name down. We are thinking $17 for one shirt or $30 for both (not definite).

Secondly, the movie I was going to work on this month got cancelled. That sucks. I need to find a job. This means I will be doing my bartending classes sooner than expected.

Thirdly, this has to do with the second thing, I can now go to the Rhode Island beard competition on the 17th which means you will all see a new style pretty soon. I am using this as somewhat of a test for Nationals.

Re: Less than a month to go ‘til Nationals.

Registration for Nationals.

There is less than a month to go until the Nationals. If you have not already registered for the competition, please do so as soon as you can. Registration is available online at www.bearteamusa.org/nationals/register. Online registration will close on October 4. In all likelihood, we will be unable to accept any registrations after October 4.

Steuben Parade, September 17.

The Steuben Parade in New York City is next Saturday, September 17. If you want to march in the parade with Beard Team USA, show up by 12 Noon on 70th Street between Madison Ave and Park Ave. Also if you are coming and haven’t already let me know, please drop me an email at tahophil@inreach.com so I have an idea of how many beardsmen to expect in our group. Dress as you would for a competition and in the mood to celebrate Oktoberfest.

BTUSA local chapters.

Contrary to what you may have heard, affiliation with Beard Team USA, like membership on the team, has always been and always will be voluntary. Also, just as there are no dues to be a member of Beard Team USA, there is no fee for being a chapter. I fully support all local chapters and am always eager to help them achieve their goals.

Activities for Nationals.

When you register, please be sure to sign up for activities too. As I said in the last newsletter, I am really encouraging people to take part in Amish Camp, which begins on Thursday afternoon. I think it is going to be great fun and also very interesting. Amish Camp takes place at the Hershey Farm and Inn, about six miles from downtown Lancaster near Strasburg, Pennsylvania, which is also the site of Friday evening’s Meet-the-Amish Dinner. I suggest that the Amish Campers just stick around at the Farm for the dinner. If you can’t make it to Amish Camp, then the brewery and Amish Farmland tour is for you. The tour departs from the Convention Center located at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square, the host hotel for the Nationals at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7. At the conclusion of the tour, those not attending the Meet-the-Amish Dinner will return to the Convention Center at approximately 5 p.m. Those attending the Meet-the-Amish Dinner will be dropped off at the Hershey Farm in Strasburg and will be brought back to the Convention Center at approximately 8 p.m. in plenty of time for the Whiskerinas’ Fake Beard Contest nearby. Cost of the Meet-the-Amish Dinner is not included in the tour price.

Whether you do Amish Camp, the brewery tour, or neither, be sure to sign up for the Meet-the-Amish Dinner beginning at 5 pm on Oct. 7at the Hershey Farm. The Dinner will be the opening party for the Nationals.

Damn Politics.

Austria is to host the 2015 World Beard and Moustache Championships? That’s bullshit. It was in Norway this year, Germany in 2013, not a 3 hour drive away the time after that? Bearding is full of drama and many people try to stay as far away from that aspect of it as possible, but this is just ridiculous. USA hosted it in Carson City in 2003, and in Anchorage in 2009, it’s only fair that the Europeans have to fly over the ocean once every 6 years. 

Womp womp. Apparently Austin, Texas might hold the “New World Beard and Moustache Championships.” Things could get interesting.

Holy Shit

Nationals are less than a week away. I have a hat. My suit is at the tailors. I made my cane today. I am testing another style tomorrow. This is fucking nuts. I sense big things happening in the bearding world soon.

I will post pictures of the cane when it’s actually finished. I need to find a dremel out here in Framingham so I can fix part of it, and then finish painting it. 

Don’t expect to see the beard. It’s a secret.

I am super nervous about my suit because I pick it up the day we leave.

My hat fits.
