2009 WBMC Champions

If you’ve been reading my blog at all you know that WBMC stands for World Beard and Moustache Championships. With this post I am officially turning this blog into an outlet for world beard news. Where most blogs about beards just post pictures, I will actually let you know what is going on with them. I will however continue to post random little things I think are cool and personal adventures.

Anyways, with the 2011 WBMC coming up fast in May, I want to let you all know who the defending champions are. Some of these people will be defending their titles and others wont be able to make it. I have also learned that the hosting team gets to decide the categories and the rules for each. In my last post I defined all the categories for this years, they are the same as 2009 except apparently there is no Alaskan Whalers category. 

I will just go straight down the list. (These are just the 1st place winners)

Did I tell you guys about this?

I didn’t? Oops, well its official. The night before this years national beard and moustache championships, there will be a national fake beard competition! The Whiskerinas (USA’s Women’s Beard and Moustache Club) are hosting it.

Much like the men have natural and freestyle categories the women will have realistic and creative categories.

Everyone who is going to nationals should go to this as well. I can only guess how awesome it is going to be.

I did it!

I just registered for the USA National Championships of Bearding.

I didn’t sign up for any of the other things like the brewery tour or amish dinner, I don’t really have the money for it.

Maybe I can sign up for them in the future?

I’m doing the freestyle category, I NEED TO THINK OF SOMETHING AWESOME!

Looking at the people who I am going up against at Nationals

Shits crazy. It just hit me, the big names I am going to be on stage with. It’s going to be a trip to remember.

Keith Haubrich, if he decides to do Freestyle. Willi Chevalier, if he decides to come back and defend his title. Bill Mitchell, Sideburns Champion at this past WBMC. Paul Beisser, 2nd place last year and Natural Goatee World Champion in 2009.

I look up to a lot of these people, hopefully I can impress someone.

Huge News

Willi is Judging Nationals! I am so pumped about this! He’s one of my heroes. I even call the style that I wore to graduation the “Little Willi.” Oh man I am so much more excited for this now!

Today was the Rhode Island competition.

The photo in the middle is the beginning of how I was going to style my beard (8 circles), but I started way too late and it’s getting too long to tame with a reasonable amount of wax, so I will really need to start working on the hairspray.

I ended up washing the beard out and just competing with the Moustache where I won. The Boston Beard Bureau swept the board! Aside from me winning, Tom Ward won Beard and Nicole Fisher won Freestyle and Best Overall.

It was a great day and we met tons of awesome people.
